Jonathan J. Reinhart is a
newly re-elected Library Trustee
and longtime Dedham resident. He was born on
December 22, 1981, at the Norfolk Naval Base in
Virginia. His parents, Jonathan F. and Gloria
M. Reinhart, instilled a love of books to him at a
young age when he got his first library card at age
5. His dad, a retired Chief in the United
States Navy, and his mom, a teacher in the Westwood
School System, provided a strong home support system
for Jonathan from an early age.
Jonathan's love of reading propelled him throughout
life. It helped him to succeed during his public
school career both in Hyde Park, where he was in the
Boston Public School's Gifted and Talented program,
and in Dedham where he was the first Dedham child to
attend the prestigious Saturday Gifted Program at
Milton Academy. Libraries provided the perfect
environment for him to read about faraway places,
complete school assignments, and satisfy his hunger
for knowledge.
After graduating from Dedham High in 2000 Jonathan
went on to college and became the first member of
the Reinhart Family to earn a college degree. He worked
his way through college at the Dedham Public Library. In 2005 Jonathan became a
graduate of Curry College where he earned his degree
in Politics & History with a minor in Philosophy.
Jonathan served a 1 year term as a Town
Meeting Representative for Precinct 5. He then
successfully ran for a seat on the Board of Library
Trustees and re-election as a Town Representative. He was successful in garnering over 68% of the vote for Trustee.
In addition he received the 2nd highest vote for Town Meeting Representative
in Precinct 5. He
respectfully turned down his seat on Town Meeting to
serve all precincts as a Library Trustee.
As a Trustee Jonathan, voted to return the library to
9pm closings, to not sell off any library land, and
to improve the infrastructure of both buildings.
He has worked hard to reach teens and advocate for
the library to reach out to this demographic. Jonathan's success
with his Young Adult Graphic Novel Book Club has
spread beyond Dedham with interest from neighboring
libraries.
The book club meets monthly and brings teens
together to read graphic
novels and discuss them.
Outside of the Trustees Jonathan has worked at the
Needham Free Public Library and Wellesley Free
Library as a Library Assistant. Jonathan is a
Library Assistant at the Wellesley Free Library.
He is engaged to his long time girlfriend, Tricia Earnshaw, and he
will also be pursuing a Masters of Library Science
degree. Currently, he is Vice-Chair of the
Board of Library Trustees, a member of the Dedham
Town Republican Committee, Dedham Historical
Society, a St. Mary's parishioner, member of the
National Trust for Historic Preservation, Friends of
the Dedham Public Library and
Massachusetts Library Association.
Jonathan has strong family ties and resides in the
Oakdale area of Dedham. He is a dedicated
advocate of libraries and programs for young adults
and the young at heart.
